Call Issued to Enhance Cashew Nut Value Addition in the Country

Acting Mtwara Regional Commissioner, who is also the Nanyumbu District Commissioner, Christopher Magala, has emphasized the importance of strengthening cashew nut market management and taking strict actions against practices that could negatively affect farmers. Speaking during a meeting that brought together the Cashew Processors Association and industry stakeholders in Mtwara on August 24, 2026, Magala stressed the need for rigorous oversight.

For his part, the Chairman of the Tanzania Cashew Processors Association (TACP), Sostenes Bahati Mayoma, urged farmers and stakeholders to increase efforts in local raw cashew nut processing. He emphasized that exporting raw cashew nuts robs the nation of numerous employment opportunities and significant revenue.

Meanwhile, the Director General of the Cashew Nut Board of Tanzania (CBT), Francis Alfred, issued a stern warning to traders and companies that collect farmers’ produce without making timely payments.

The meeting, which brought together government leaders, the private sector, and factory owners in the Mtwara region, aimed to strengthen primary and secondary markets. It also focused on helping entrepreneurs acquire processing machinery and capital, while boosting the competitiveness of Tanzanian cashews in global markets.

The meeting was also attended by various prominent leaders, including the Mtwara Regional CCM Chairman, Teacher Said Musa Nyingedi, and the Acting Regional Administrative Secretary, who is also the Assistant Administrative Secretary for Economy and Production, Dr. Subira Simbeye.
