Accelerating Growth and Investment in Tanzania's Cashew Industry

Driving the Future of Tanzanian Cashew Processing

The Tanzania Association of Cashewnut Processors (TACP) is the umbrella organization representing all cashew nut processors in Tanzania, established in March 2020. Our vision is a sustainable Tanzanian cashew industry that delivers globally competitive, value-added products and ensures profitability for all stakeholders. TACP provides a platform to accelerate growth and investments through partnerships, advocacy, market linkages, technical support, and global networking.

TACP works closely with the Government of Tanzania and other stakeholders to create an enabling environment and stimulate investment. We encourage foreign investment and facilitate partnerships between local processors and foreign investors. We also support farmers and small-scale processors by increasing their capacity and access to technology. TACP represents the sector internationally, disseminating market information and branding Tanzanian cashews to boost exports.

Why Invest in Tanzania's Cashew Industry?

Tanzania’s cashew industry presents an untapped opportunity for investors, marked by exceptional quality, efficient processing, and a supportive environment for growth

World-Class Quality

Tanzanian cashews are renowned globally for their superior quality, consistently boasting an outturn of 52+ Lbs and a nut count from 160 beans. Their uniquely best taste makes them suitable for diverse applications, from snacks and butter to milk and curries.

Efficient Processing

Cashew processing in Tanzania is characterized by its ease, high output ratio compared to other nut origins, and low processing costs, making it adaptable to various processing technologies. The short and simple route from farmer to processor ensures easy traceability and quality control, preventing mixing with other cashew origins.

Guaranteed Marketability

Tanzanian cashew kernels and their by-products enjoy high demand in the world market, ensuring easy sales and guaranteed customer return. The sector is experiencing an impressive 15% annual growth.

Supportive Government Initiatives

The Tanzanian government is actively driving industrialization and agro-processing, implementing new policies to enhance the investment environment. A key goal is to increase local cashew processing from the current 10% to 60% by 2025 and an ambitious 80% by 2030.

Significant Investment Opportunity

With an expected harvest of 400,000 MT in the 2022/2023 season and an installed capacity of 90,000 MT, there’s a current gap of 310,000 MT, highlighting a substantial opportunity for processing factory investments. The sector will require an estimated €28M in investment and €385M in working capital by 2025 to achieve 60% local processing.

Investor-Friendly Environment

Tanzania offers a supportive government, easily accessible infrastructure including roads, mobile networks, internet connectivity, and major ports (Dar es Salaam, Tanga, Mtwara). The highly digitized banking infrastructure, including mobile money, facilitates easy transactions in both rural and urban areas. Contract farming is allowed, and organic farming is highly emphasized.
